Tool-call groups in iOS chat

Tool calls within an assistant message appear in one Tool Calls card where the first call occurred. Later calls join that card as the reply streams, including calls made after intervening text. Reopening a chat reconstructs the same grouping from saved history.

The trigger uses a shared sentence such as Ran 3 commands and read 2 files, capped at two lines, followed by compact activity rings beside the chevron. The rings fill as calls finish, with failures shown as red segments. The sentence pushes upward when a new category adds a phrase. Calls in an existing category only animate the changing numbers; they do not push the whole sentence. The rings animate as calls finish. Reduce Motion disables these motion effects. Expand it to see categories such as Shell, Read, Edit, Web search, and MCP, ordered by their first appearance. Each category can collapse independently. Counts represent calls, so reading the same file twice counts as two calls.

Each call shows its label and status: running, completed, failed, waiting for your response, denied, or interrupted. A denied call is not counted as a failure. Elapsed time appears when timing information is available; it includes time spent preparing the call or waiting for approval. Older calls without timing information omit the duration.

Tap the summary to expand or collapse the tool calls underneath it. The summary starts collapsed during streaming and when loading history, and keeps your choice as calls arrive and the reply finishes.

Tap a call to open its expanded details in a sheet, or choose View all tool details. The sheet updates as new calls and results arrive. Drag it up for more room, or tap Done to close it.
